About the workshops I hold at Sheldon Paint

Annie Sloan is keen to provide you with the tools to create your own unique finishes and looks to us, her stockists, to help make that happen. We work closely with her to extend our own knowledge and keep our ideas fresh, with workshop days at her oxford headquarters and access to her creative knowledge. So explore the world of colour making in relation to style and design. Learn new techniques based on the Chalk Paint™ colour palette.  But basically get as mad about paint me!

A bit about me - your teacher!
I met Annie many years ago (my first workshop with Annie was in 1985 or thereabouts when she was teaching the public) Since then we have worked together in Spain where I established the distribution network of Chalk Paint™ and also had a shop where I hosted workshops and painted furniture commissions for people. I worked with the team at Annie's base in Oxford where we train all of her UK based stockists before they can host their own workshops.

I am thrilled to say that as an official stockist, we have a shop and studio here in Hampton dedicated to her magic paint and the myriad of techniques that can be achieved with Chalk Paint™.

I hold regular workshops to teach Annie’s techniques plus a series of additional workshops to complement your work.

Best wishes
Jane

About The Workshops

Introduction to the Annie Sloan Method of Painting (£69.00) leaves you rushing home to start a project! It’s  a three hour session working on wooden boards and packed with loads of information about what you can achieve with Chalk Paint™
Believe me – folks love it!

A fun three hour workshop designed by Annie to introduce you to the ways of Chalk Paint™ and the wonderful things you can achieve. Learning about colour whilst working on wood gives you a free hand to experience the paint and techniques to get that really professional finish. You will go home prepared to start on your own projects with confidence.

What we do:-
On this workshop you practice on wooden boards to achieve the following effects:

  • Explore the many ways to manipulate the paint for effects from a simple colour wash to Annie’s signature two colour distress finish.  Although this is widely used to create a “shabby chic” look with the right knowledge, it can also be used really successfully to create a sharp contemporary, or subtle build-up of layered colours finish.
  • Create a new colour by learning how to mix them together.
  • Application of the finishing coats of either lacquer or clear wax to give your work the protection it requires.
  • How to control the waxing procedure so you feel secure about the application of dark and coloured waxes for a  perfect finish.

There is so much more I talk about as well giving you lots of ideas for using Annie’s paint on your projects in ways other than painting. I can only introduce these to you here as three hours goes by so very fast.

Annie Sloan Techniques for Colour and Style (£75.00)

This workshop means that now you can really decorate your work and make it special.

You leave with an understanding of how to

  • Manipulate the paint to create textured and graded finishes.
  • Handle metal leaf for that final flourish.
  • Image transfer, an effective decorative technique that put beautiful art work on a surface even if you can’t paint yourself.
  • Gilded stencilled designs.
  • All this is topped off with ageing with wax and a two wonderful crackle effects to achieve a unique finish for your designs.

Annie Sloan Creating Colour (£30.00)  This is an empowering  course that explores the how, why and when of colour making so you can create your exact colour work. It is designed as an introduction to give you the wherewithal to work confidently and alone exploring your own talent. Feel confident about mixing a colour to match a fabric. Why does this colour work so well in this room, how do I make the perfect grey, lighten colours or make them darker?

Sheldon Paint Workshops

Working with Wax. This is a perfect follow on from Annie's intro level workshops. it's a two hour mini workshop to explore the use of wax as a decorative medium. Black Wax, White Wax and the Gilding Waxes all come out to play. Folk have told me what a good follow on it is to get the most out of all that we offer for painting.

Decorative Gilding Want to join in and learn how to achieve some amazing results? Having learned how to apply metal leaf over a painted surface we now take a deeper look at how you can achieve impressive effects which give your work a unique look. This workshop is divided into two sessions over a two week period. The second visit allows 1 hour at the end for you to work on your own project if you wish.
We explore the use of water based dyes, household chemicals and borrow other techniques more commonly associated with painting.
Frottage over metallic wax gives a random colour finish. Water based dyes make fabulous patterns. Verdigris greens and blues make a soft aged copper look. Subtle patterns grow from some precise incision work. Gentle ageing of copper metal leaf. Some exciting effects to tarnish metal leaf work.

Both Part 1 and Part 2 are two hour workshops but Part 2 has an hour at the end if you wish to practice one of the techniques learned on your own small item (and I mean small - no chests of drawers or dining tables please!)

Roller Stencil Special is where we explore the effects and uses created using a roller stencil kit. It’s quick and easy – once you have cracked it! Suddenly walls, floors, curtains and lampshades fall to the power of your roller. We supply all you need to practice. Just two hours and then you are off. I have written a separate post about roller stencils if  you want to know more about it.

Dyeing with Chalk Paint™. This is a terrific opportunity to experiment with the paint as a dye and fabric paint. We look at making amazing patterns on cloth, how to use your own design to make a unique lampshade which you can take home with you. Revolutionize your ideas for curtains, bed covers and cushions

Lamps and Lampshades Make your own lampshade using our lovely Annie Sloan fabrics and paint a lamp to match. How cool is that!

As you see we take our workshops VERY seriously!
